Is Christmas In Malaga Good For A Holiday?

Christmas is a great time to take a city break in Malaga or the Costa del Sol. There are two main points that make taking a Christmas break special. The first thing is the weather. So, far this winter, there hasn’t been cold weather. In fact, most days have been around 20 degrees Celsius, and I am writing this part of my blog on December the 1st! The second point is that Christmas in Spain is very traditional. Expect plenty of Christmas lights, Christmas markets and even small fairgrounds for the kids. It really is a great atmosphere without the cold weather to spoil enjoying it.

However, there is one negative thing to remember, the Spanish celebrate Christmas on Christmas Eve. This means that from about 7pm, most things will close. This, in my opinion, creates a bit of a depressing atmosphere compared to other European countries. It won’t last long though, as after midnight everyone is out and about to celebrate. Once the Christmas Eve dinner is finished, around 1am, some bars and nightclubs will open. Things finally became as you would expect.

If you are staying in Malaga on Christmas Eve, there will be a handful of restaurants and bars that are open. Public transport will be limited, so it is best to check if you need to go anywhere. Shops and supermarkets will close from about 7pm on Christmas Eve.
