How Many Nights To Book When Visiting Malaga

Malaga is an amazing city with many sights and historic attractions to visit. One question many might ask, is how many nights to book when visiting Malaga. In this post, I explain what you can see and do for a different number of nights. This should help you decide how many nights to book when visiting Malaga. No matter how many nights you choose to stay when you visit Malaga, there is always a great itinerary of places to visit.

Visiting Malaga For One Night, The Must See Itinerary

If you are visiting Malaga for just in night, you would really want to see the most important sights the city offers. I would recommend, for a one—night stay, staying in the historic centre of Malaga. This will give you quick access to the Alcazaba, Cathedral, Picasso Museum and the vibrant and historic old town. With careful planning, you will be able to enjoy most of Malagas attractions and restaurants, within the same district.

One Night Itinerary When Visiting Malaga

A one night stay in Malaga will mean cramming as much in as possible. Most people would want to explore the must-visit sights and attractions. Here is the must-see in 24 hours itinerary.

Alcazaba: The Moorish fortress that dates from the 10th century and sights high above the city. A brief visit to this moment can take between 60 and 90 minutes. It is mostly outdoors, so it might be best avoiding on a very wet day. Once at the top, you can enjoy some great views of Malaga.

Roman Theatre: Dating from 1BC, this attraction is the oldest in Malaga. It is very well-preserved and entry is free. It is located by the Alcazaba, so you will be able to visit both historic monuments at the same time.

Malaga Cathedral: This majestic structure never fails to impress me each time I walk past. Its sheer size is simply breathtaking, and while it might not be the most famous cathedral in Spain, it’s definitely worth a visit.

Picasso Museum: Malaga’s most famous resident was Pablo Ruiz Picasso. An artist of unique talent in modernism painting. The best place to explore Picasso’s works is at the Picasso Museum. Housing permanent and temporary exhibitions, it is well worth a visit.

Enjoy the old town of Malaga: Malaga is a city that just being there is a delight. The historic centre with narrow alley ways, famous squares and endless restaurants make walking around a pleasure. Stroll along Calle Granada, visit the shops on Calle Larios or visit a restaurant on the many side streets. Getting lost through these wonderful streets will just add to the excitement of this part of Malaga.

Staying Two Nights In Malaga, Explore More Of The City

If you decide to stay for two nights when visiting Malaga, you will have more time to explore more of the city. The port area and Soho districts can be added, as well as heading up to the very top of Gibralfaro Castle. A two-night stay in Malaga opens up more possibilities of what you can see and do. As well as what we mentioned in the above one-day literary, you should have more time to add on the following places to visit.

Gibralfaro Castle: This is an old fortress that stands 132m above sea level. It is the highest part of the city of Malaga and can be reached on foot, by car, Segway or bus. You can buy a combo ticket with the Alcazaba for just 5.50 Euros.

Muelle Uno: One of my favourite places to visit, this is a modern shopping and leisure complex within Malaga Port. There are plenty of shops, bars, and restaurants to visit. You can enjoy boat tours and other leisure activities. Recently, there have been some remarkable super yachts moored here, great to have a photo taken alongside these massive yachts.

Malaga Park: You can pass through this historic park on your way to or from Muelle Uno. It is a botanical garden park that has open air concerts in summer.

Soho District: Soho can be found opposite the historic centre divided by Avenida Alameda. There are several street art murals to spot as well as coffee shops, restaurants, and bars. A great place to enjoy some Italian food is at Bresca Italian Restaurant.

What To See And Do When Staying Three Nights In Malaga

A three-night stay in Malaga should be enough time to view most of the sights and attractions. Depending on your interests, you could add more museums or go shopping. Considering the places I highlighted above for a one or two night stay, you could consider adding the following for a three-night visit.

McarthurGlen Designer Outlet: A wonderful shopping complex filled with designer shops. The best part is, there are permanent discounts of up to 70% off. Armani, Ralph Lauren, Boss, Calvin Klein and many more. If you are from outside the EU, you can enjoy tax-free shopping. UK residents included. Just take the train from Malaga Centro Alameda station to Plaza Mayor, it takes just 15 minutes to arrive.

Explore Malaga’s Museums: Recently, Malaga has become the city of museums. Now with over 30 museums to visit, you can find everything from glass museums to the fantastic OXO video game museum. There is quite simply put, a museum for everyone in Malaga.

Ataranzanas Market: A historic market just off Avenida Alameda. A nice place to pop in and spend half an hour purchasing some local specialities.

Malagueta Beach: If you are visiting Malaga in summer, you can enjoy a beach holiday with a city break. The Malagueta Beach is the best beach in Malaga, with several chiringuitos (beach bars) to enjoy a meal and a drink.

A Five Night Stay In Malaga, A Chance To Explore Andalusia

If you’re lucky enough to be staying in Malaga for five nights or more, you may have time to explore other places. Since Malaga has many companies that offer car rental, you can easily start exploring the area. If you don’t fancy driving, the main Malaga train station offers quick and easy connections to many cities. Here is y pick of places that you can visit on a day trip from Malaga.

Granada: Home of the Alhambra and a great city to visit. Granada should be top of your list for a day trip away from Malaga. Explore the medieval streets of Albaucun, the famous cathedral or go skiing on the Sierra Nevada. Granada is simply a city well worth visiting.

Córdoba: Maybe one of the largest hidden gems in Spain. Córdoba seems to miss the popularity of Malaga, Seville, and Granada. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and that is no surprise due to its historical importance. Along with Granada, I recommend a visit to Córdoba. It can be visited in a day, and travel time is about 1 hour 35 minutes by car.

Tarifa: Another favourite place I enjoy visiting at weekends. Around an hour and a half from Malaga and in the province of Cadiz. The town of Tarifa is charming, and the area around is unique. Dunes and rustic green scenery, it’s quite a unique area to explore.

Costa Tropical: Just a 50-minute drive from Malaga and the opposite of the Costa del Sol. This is where the mountains meet the sea and is one of the most beautiful coastlines in the area. A great place to find hidden beaches, coastline roads and tranquil resorts such as Almuñecar. My tip ks head from Malaga along the A-7 motorway, leave at Nerja and join the N-340 road until Almuñecar. If you head to Motril, you can be in Granada in under 40 minutes.

Costa del Sol: The start of Spanish tourism. The resorts of Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola are still worth visiting. The best time of the year to enjoy the holiday atmosphere is during the summer months. You can get to the Costa del Sol by train from Malaga Centro Alameda train station or drive along the A-7 motorway.

Conclusion

Deciding how many nights to stay in Malaga depends on how much you want to see. Even if you visit for a day, you will, at least, have time to view the most iconic sights of the city. However, add more nights and you can explore much more of Malaga. I would recommend a stay of two or three nights to make the most of your visit. If you opt for three nights, you may be able to include a visit to Granada or Córdoba, both places I highly recommend visiting.
